Is your investment of time in new media giving you a valuable return? This is the question that has come up in Google+ circles and Facebook groups over the last few weeks. Time passes at the speed of light on social networks. A few shared articles, comments, and “Poof!” A few hours are gone! Is this really paying off? What are your social media goals and am I achieving them?

I think some key first steps are deciding what exactly in real biz terms you want from online and then consistently measuring for ROI, without these you'll never know. Thanks for sharing here at Bizsugar.com

You are right Niall. Taking a pragmatic approach to our business endeavors is necessary for efficient productivity. New media has been difficult to corral for many people. Thanks for your comment.

Wow, great post! I think the key thing is to find balance, not just in social media vs. "real" life, but in everything...eating, leisure vs. exercise, work vs. family, school vs. partying, whatever. You know you're off balance when you find yourself pining for the "other"--the "other" being anything you like that you are not doing. My whole adult life I've been striving for this balance, but it seems like Nirvana (not the band)--you get a glimpse of it and experience it for a while, then it's obscured for a while. But you get it back. Seems like you've found it, Gary! Excellent post, and hope to read more!

Thank you Heather! Have I found Nirvana? Not yet, but I continue working on it. You're 100% right about finding balance in everything. Life is like standing on one leg while rubbing your tummy and patting your head. Your foot is constantly adjusting, jiggling wiggling, and once in a awhile you have solid footing. Your awareness tells me that you're on the right track. Your thoughtful comment is very much appreciated; writer to writer.
