Yes I have consumed the social media Kool-Aid. In fact I have opened my own roadside stand. Social media is an exciting disruptive technology. But the ride is almost over, the hype will die down after everyone has found everyone on Facebook and when even our dog has a blog. Marketers and the community at large will ask “Now What?”

Social media will come to an end. The ride is not over yet, we have a few good years ahead of us but the writing is one the wall. My podcast today is about the end of social media and what it means to marketers, bloggers, business owners and the community as a whole.

I don't think it will end. It will evolve as Cindy mentioned. Remember we are still in the eary stages with only a fraction of people and businesses using social media.

Shawn aso makes a good point about the community working at different paces.

It's funny, I don't really look at the end... I'm looking beyond and wondering what's next. I can't wait for mobile phone technologies to evolve even more and change our lives yet again.

...It feels like change is the constant.

It sometimes seems to me that the online business community and thus the WHOLE business community is working at a different pace and perhaps in a different direction than other early adopters of new technology. This said, it raises the question of whether some will never really discover social media (at least Facebook or Twitter) or use them much at all or whether others will adopt them later and for quite different purposes. Even now the podcast seems much older technology to some than it does to the business community. Lastly "social media" describes the use of this media at present far more than it describes the tools of blogging/microblogging themselves. Cheaper media platforms than an earlier era of Internet technology and the use of increasingly collaborative technology seems to be the path to the future and it seems hard to believe that this will change anytime soon.
