Hi Matt.

Bit.ly is good for Twitter, since space is limited, but it & other url shorteners are a favorite tactic of spam sites - they use them for future redirects. You follow Honest Jimmy-Joe Harse, and in a couple days, he redirects to a drug, porn or gambling site. I don't know about Google's url shortener - but it seems to me they might control spammers better.
