One of the biggest trends in 2011, was for business pages to gather "fans". These are people who click "Like" on a particular Facebook business page. There has been ongoing debate about whether the quantity of fans really means more income for the business, and this leads to discussions on what is the short and long term value of having a fan.

Brilliant post, Fiona! I think companies need to look to their existing customers in the first instance on Facebook, these are the people that will make the most valuable fans at the start: they buy your products and have a relationship with your biz. Great discussion, Fiona. This is an often discussed topic and I think there's no easy answer. It probably also depends on the type of business you operate and the kinds of fans you are attracting.
