Today's workers, the ones who came of age with Facebook and technology as part of the fabric of their lives, are used to connecting, sharing and collaborating online, and you need to provide tools that let this new generation of employees work the way they are used to.

Ron: Thanks for the link! I did a presentation with a slide with examples of companies with good social media policies. Page 12 - http://www.slideshare.net/lyceum/it-power

Ron: I call myself a "social lone wolf" using new media as a digital native (nomad). Have you examples of companies that have implemented a smart social media policy and workflow?

Here's a story I wrote for CITEworld where a large company instituted an enterprise social platform with great results.

Heather:

Of course! You're absolutely right. Young people are leading the way, but many workers regardless of their age now used to using simple apps that just work are fed up with the old klunky tools that never work right as well. Point well taken. I write about the consumerization movement as it is known quite frequently and I was merging a couple of threads here about younger workers, the value of enterprise social tools and the consumerizaton effect in the enterprise.

Hi Ron,

Aside from being the technology your youngest employees feel most comfortable with, isn't it a good idea simply from a productivity standpoint? I am not sure why "clunky" would better even for an older staff. Isn't the idea here to make collaboration as fluid as possible?? Of course, this is what social tools do best. Love to hear your take on this in the comment section on BizSugar. Thanks!
