Find out who's responsible for the now widely used "hashtag" in this Tek Shouts! article. Where would our social media marketing campaigns be without them?

Yes, it has come a full circle with Twitter. Did you know that Twitter started almost as a mistake? ;)

Have you used the hashtag service, Tagboard?

Thanks for your input! I am involved in a new online venture, and we will take the hashtag one step further, to the individual user of our products...

Hey this is a great post that I'm reading this morning. For the first time, I came across the history of hashtags through your post. Good to know about Messina. Thanks for writing this nice post for us.

How could use a hashtag as a small business owner? Personally, I am using a hashtag for my forthcoming book on tea: #teaftwbook

Thanks Lyceum for the comment! You could coin your own hashtag for your company, which you could utilize on all social media platforms. You could also use hashtags on social media posts that are important to your industry, so when people search for trending items, your posts could show up in the results. Do some research on trending keywords for your specific industry so you can get started.

The first time I saw the pound sign # used on the Internet, was @ IRC + Internet Relay Chat, e.g, #USA channel.

It's funny because the pound sign has been used for a long time, just not for hashtags. It wasn't until 2007 or 2008 when the pound symbol really became an important online categorization tool for social media platforms.
