LinkedIn has opened the doors to Pulse, the publishing platform for influencers. Previously only available to a small group of hand-selected people, now anyone can publish on the site. But that doesn't mean it's necessarily a good thing.

Sarah: I did a serious Sharknado joke and business comment in my latest podcast together with Lotta Gergils Aston (TrendPals). We discussed how we use social media during other activities, e.g., during a movie. Talking about sharks, have you read Sharkonomics by Stefan Engeseth? You could read my book review on Small Business Trends.

I'll check it out, Martin. Thanks for the tip. It sounds like fun.

Great article, Sarah. I agree with your stance on this. I think that it's much better to own the platform that you create content on, rather than "rent" it. It's much more secure and sound, and you don't have to worry about waking up one day only to realize that your content has vanished.

Hi Ti, Thanks for your feedback on this. Not everyone agrees with me but, like you, I'd rather build my own property even if it means less traffic in the beginning. To be honest, I don't need the masses at my business, only as much as I can manage as a small business owner.

Sarah: Have marketers "ruined" LinkedIn Pulse? I am thinking of writing content on LinkedIn, but I will then cater the material so it will fit the "career" / personal development / business philosophy field.

Unfortunately, Martin, I do think marketers have ruined LinkedIn. If you do post, I encourage you to break some new ground and stick to business. I honestly don't want to see another cat photo and or a Sharknado joke.
