Listen to Anita Campbell's podcast, The Latest Trends Driving Small Business. She has a segment called, "Location Based Presence Online." Google Latitude and Foursquare are mentioned.

Personally I have been using Gowalla for sometime and I enjoy the way you could arrange meetings and keeping in touch with Twitter friends.

Check out net@night's podcast interviews with Gowalla and Foursquare for more information.

However, as the article I linked to mentions, Facebook and Twitter are looking to add location features to their sites, and there's real possibility for either of those to catch on.

Pat Henry: I think that geo location based services could be of good use for local business, reaching out to loyal customers and "ambassadors" on the internet. I also think that this behavior will lead to more "meetups" in the future. The "Third Place" is getting more available.
