Too many businesses outsource their social media to external agencies. It's understandable, but not a good idea. These are just a few reasons why.

Thanks for your comments Adam but I don't agree. There was a very good case in point today where a U.S. based social media 'expert' got outed on his own Twitter account by one of his ghostwriters who he decided to sack.

I think if a business doesn't have the time they should focus on other things, social media in my experience is not a great driver of sales in itself, just part of a much bigger picture.

I think it really depends on what you are using the platform for as well as who you are turning to in order to keep the account active. In some cases, for time-strapped small business owners in particular, outsourcing a few social media responsibilities may be appropiate.
