Picture this. The great post you bookmarked a few days ago has been replaced by a 404 error message.

Sounds familiar? Well, that’s because the 404 error page (“Sorry, the page you requested cannot be found”) is a very common occurrence. It pops up on a visitor’s screen every time they input a bad link or click a non-existent or dead link. More often than not, this prompts the person to leave. And if they don’t already know or trust your website, they will probably never come back.

Cendrine: I am using both Wordpress and Squarespace. I managed to build my own blog sites in Squarespace, from scratch. In Wordpress, I had to get help with the installation. I think that both are good web platform tools.

Cendrine: Personally, I would say that you don't have to know how to code, if you are using Squarespace. But you could, go into the html code, if you want. I haven't thought about creating a customized 404 page, so I will look into this matter. Thanks again for writing about this topic.

I have heard different a different story regarding Squarespace. Some say it's the best platform, and others that it takes longer to figure out than WordPress. Glad to see you have had a great experience with it!

Cendrine: Squarespace sent me the following tweet:

"You can check out how to create a custom 404 Error page in our guide here: http://sqsp.link/1cx04 "

Squarespace is different from WordPress, apparently. I have never used it, so I learnt something new. When you use WP, you need to know how to code (even minimally) to customize your design.

How do you find Squarespace?

Looking sharp. Is it tea or coffee in the mug? ;)

I have to check if Squarespace has a feature for creating personalized 404 error pages.

You need to work within your function files (in the background). You cannot create a 404 error page just like you would a regular page or post.

Cendrine: How does your 404 error page look like? Nice examples in the post.

My 404 page looks ok, I think. Nothing extraordinary. http://socialmediaslant.com/bad-reviews-4/
