I had just graduated from Oglethorpe College (now University)in 1970 with my degree in business and had elected to come into our family business, The David David Gallery, Philadelphia.
I was quite self assured that my hard earned business background and new found acumen would quickly launch me into the upward ranks and serve me well. I soon realized that the real world of business had its own precepts and rules of the road. That documented groundwork in the text books would perhaps be effective somewhere but not in our well established organization now going into its third generation. Much as I tried to introduce and apply what I had learned, it was futile. The machine was already running quite well and I had no choice but to offer suggestions and wait to see if any were acknowledged, much less accepted.
