Deadlines, high expectations, demanding deliverables and a whole lot of ego can push us to speed through a negotiation. We push ourselves and our counterparts faster and faster. But it doesn’t need to be that way. Pause – take a breath – and get better results.

Devon: Good to hear about your story. I got aha moments about negotiations during a supply chain management course on science of law. ;) It is a good exercise to evaluate the standard form you have printed on shipping / purchasing / order confirmation documents regarding the terms of delivery.

Devon, as a former purchaser, it is fascinating to see a writer who has specialized in the negotiations process. I often said, you never know when you will be at the other side of the negotiation table...

So true Lyceum! When I was a purchaser, I thought negotiations were the most boring part of the job...until I could see how much difference having a great contract makes for the team actually working the procurement day-to-day. Glad to have lived both lives!
