Our particular ability to remember … and forget is unique to all of us. Some of us never forget a face while being hopeless with names. Others have trouble with appointments or where we left our keys. I often have trouble finding the right word or forget the entire plot of a movie or book. (Not to mention chunks of my life that are completely missing). Unfortunately , these memory malfunctions tend to get worse with age, so it is important to find ways to fend them off. From a work and business perspective, forgetting something important can have severe consequences. Below are some ideas to help you keep track of your tasks:

I constantly have ideas going in and out of my head and if I didn't make lists and give myself reminders, I would be struggling. My memory serves me well, but I choose not to have to rely on it. All the things you list here are great ideas and can save time and embarrassment.

Thanks.

Good list Ronika.

I have had a bad memory since about 14 and if I didn't use a system in my business I guess I would be out of business by now.

Thanks, Susan. I agree that a system is essential. Having gone through many variations of a system, I suppose the important thing is to find one that works for you.

Ronika,

I was going to leave a comment but I forgot what I was going to say!!!

All joking aside, very nice article and great tips! I love the names to use in the event you forget someone's name. "Dude," "Buddy," Champ?" I've been in that situation many times.

I'm a lo-tech guy so I use pencil and paper to remember most things. I do have a habit of mis-placing the papers though and the ones I find have invariably gone through the wash. I will use your advice!

Ya mean like "shrinkage", "re-gifter", and "bomb-worthy"?

Yoni,

How I miss Seinfeld. Providing so many practical solutions to every day problems (while adding to our vocabulary at the same time) :)

Ronika,

How about the Seinfeld approach...everybody in the world should have to wear a name tag. It's silly, but it would make life a whole lot easier!

:) That actually happens to me frequently! I've bumped into people and have had to talk to them for a few minutes just to remember who they are. The worse is when you are in the situation when you have to introduce someone and you have no idea what their name is.

I've tended to rely on my memory a lot, but recently I have so much more to keep track of that it has been necessary to ensure that I have some sort of system. I think I've found one that works.

Thanks, Yoni!
