Every business guru will tell you: start with what you know. You will have a greater chance of success if you know what you are getting into. But what if you want to try out something new that is drastically different from your present career or your realm of experience? Should having no knowledge of the business stop you from pursuing it?

If you asked me, the answer is no.

I didn't have the knowledge entering the business I am in right now. I learn along the way. And yes, sometimes things just backfire.

But that's entrepreneurship, right?

Hi Nach,

Way to thumb your nose at convention. In fact, there are a few examples of very successful entrepreneurs who started new businesses based on no knowledge of the business they were entering and guided only by passion. For example, Mark and Stacy Andrus, founders of Stacy's Pita Chip Co. knew nothing about the the food business when they bought their first food cart. Now, the successful snack company is a near staple of the popular snack industry.

Things like this are kinda risky. Since you don't know anything about the business. Don't start a business without studying it first but don't overstudy or focus on what if's try it out but be wary. Thanks for sharing in BizSugar!
