Strategy and Tactics are common denominators in business, society, relationships, etc, signify the importance of these concepts in our everyday, short- and long-term activities.. But. most of the times, these concepts are confused with the result most people to use them with very limited results. Sun Tzu, argues, that:

“Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat.” ― Sun Tzu, The Art of War

Strategy is a resource and a tool, that, we, all, unanimously agreed, that should be used, more today, by people and organizations, for bringing better results. But it is not. And it is often confused with the tactics employed for achieving a certain situation. It seems that there is a tag war between strategy vs. tactics, leaving, always, short the strategy side of the equation.

Takis - Excellent explanation. The way I always explain to my clients is this - strategy will tell you where you want to go. Tactics will show how.

I totally agree AngelBiz. It is important to try to clarify your clients the differences between strategy and tactics, but I think that (especially in business) is very important to try an explanation, in order to establish a common ground of reference. I like very much your description. Thank you for sharing.

It's good to know their differences because many bloggers don't know the difference between strategy and tactics and sometimes they interchangeably use it. Articles like this keeps us readers more knowledgeable. thanks!

Takis: Thanks for clearing up the differences between strategy and tactics. Before you start out mapping out your long-term strategy and tactical steps, you have to ask yourself why you are in business.
