Kelli - You bring up a very important point about community involvement and giveback. All businesses should do that, but it is even more important for small businesses because most of their business is coming from the local community. By getting their name out there they will benefit in terms of more brand recognition and business.

If you are not able to give financial contribution you can provide services with in-kind contribution.
