It's a sort of "don't let this happen to you" post and is something to really think about when business is down. Agreed, Cindy,

Interestingly, not long after reading this post I had several conversations with people in my business and personal life about the tendency of so many businesses, especially long established small businesses, to slowly decay as they fail to reinvest, to reposition themselves or to find new markets in a changing economy. When you talk to these business owners, they will often complain about changes in the world that make their current model impossible to sustain. I can't compete with this or that, they say or some similar scenario. And they talk about how things have just gotten so hard for small business. But never do they talk about what they could do to survive or even to flourish in a changing ecosystem, nor, I think, do they even consider it though the tools that would make that change possible are all around them.

Great post!

Here are two quotes that stood out for me.

"This isn't a dip, it's a cul de sac. It's over."

"Change is a bear, but it's better than death."

These are things that are good to remember. Change can be frightening... yet it might be the only way up again.
