Advertisers are looking for blogs with a lot of interactivity to advertise on. Bloggers are also looking for top blogs to generate backlinks from.

But do blog comments reflect the quality of a blog?

Tiroberts, you are absolutely right. Quality, lengthy and informative comments are an indicator of a blog with a healthy community.

But what surprises me is the one or two sentence comments that flood many blogs. These comments are obviously left by backlink seekers, yet they get approved by the blog owners. Such comments eventually reduce the reputation of such blogs.

Comments should either answer questions left by other commenters, add more points to the post itself, remind the poster of what has been left out, etc. But where they have none of these, they are to my best knowledge, spam comments.

I think that for the most part they do. I mean, if there's a lot of lengthy quality blog comments then I think that's a good indicator of the quality of not only the blog but the community. Thanks for sharing your insights with us.
