Today, Ganong Bros. of St. Stephen, New Brunswick is known as Canada's oldest candy company. But when brothers James and Gilbert Ganong founded the company in 1873, it was just another struggling small business. What the brothers were known for was their innovation. Firsts for the company included wrapped candy bars, the first Canadian lollipop, North America's first chocolate nut bar and more. We're told in this post from the GoForth Institute that 80 percent of Canada's businesses are family businesses. This is a great one which remains iconic today.
