Herbalist and aromatherapist Ella Nunes has created a powerful brand for the soaps and lotions marketed by her Toronto-based company Ella’s Botanicals that is strongly rooted in the products themselves. Her items are hand-made, locally produced, natural and good for the environment. Starting with just one product, she has built a line of soaps and lotions now available in 50 stores across Canada and in 2009, Whole Foods began to carry her products as well. She is now eying U.S. distribution. Nunes' success is an important reminder that branding is not something you can simply slap on a product as a marketing gimmick.
