Given the responsibilities accountants in the UK have to snitch on you to the tax authorities, I can't hep feeling that an accountant is someone who works for the government, you're just the mug who pays his fees :)

I would like to add that you should also select an accountant that will actually help you analyze your numbers and provide suggestions for improving your accounting records or your business.
