One of the things I admire from my CPA firm is the lengthy tax questionnaire they send out each year in January. It takes some time to go through the questionnaire, but when you do it covers all the kinds of things this expert mentions in the article. I recommend every CPA/tax advisor send something like that out to clients -- and that clients take the time to go through it page by page. As a client you get a much better understanding of where your potential tax savings come from. You also can be an active participant in tax planning in future years, through the knowledge you gain from answering all the questions.
