You will never market your small business the same again thanks to new features being introduced by FB. In the old days a customer might have looked for a local business by typing a search for the type of business followed by the location into Google. But with new location-based applications being rolled out by the world's most successful social network, you're much more likely to check out where your friends are hanging out on Facebook first. How do you react to this major new shift in tech and its implications for online marketing? Let us know what you think.

This is an awesome post. Lots of comments, discussion. I added some thoughts around smartphone adoption. I believe in LBS and FB and mobile trends in general, but in US market, 25% of mobile phones are smart phones. What are you doing with the other 75% of your market?

Thanks, TJ. All great observations and I'm glad it sparked plenty of discussion.

The location based services are here to stay. You could now be logged in on Facebook all the time, if you have a smartphone. My favorite location based service is Gowalla at the moment. I like to take pictures (after I have asked for permission) of speakers, social media enthusiasts and friends together with a short message which I distribute on different channels, e.g. Twitter and Facebook. I have started to test out Foursquare because it is one of the main players.

What do you think of Facebook's places?
