Understandable, Duncan. Imagine how difficult it might have been a few years ago to imagine the business applications of a Facebook or a Foursquare. What value could there possibly be (beyond socializing) in identifying and connecting with people who know you and those who know them? Similarly what is the value of figuring out who frequents the same places you frequent? In both cases marketers now understand the value quite well. In the case of GetGlue, imagine you have a target audience consisting of people who all enjoy the same TV show, the same music or have other similar interests. Where online might you now expect to find these people all gathered together? Or where might you do simple market research for a product or service aimed at people sharing a particular interest online? Get it?

That makes a lot of sense, Shawn! There are Still businesses that don't get FaceBook, let alone a few years ago. Maybe it'd be good to get in on the ground floor.

Interesting, Shawn - I need help w/the business application. The definition in the article says: "What is GetGlue.com? It's a service that helps you find new favorite TV shows, movies, music, and more based on your friend's taste." Is GetGlue's business angle in the "make it real conferences"?- I couldn't quite make it out.
