This is an excellent post Debbie, using them as an great example of how to successfully build a loyal community using the social media tools and letting the fanbase learn more about you as a person within the biz. Totally agree with all of your points but particularly your one advising businesses to ensure that everyone knows what the correct hashtag is, otherwise the message and the effect will be diluted.

Agree it is great to see an established band using social media well to stay connected. Although they don't generate the numbers more high profile celebrities would, the interaction is great - something a lot of businesses need to focus more on as too many still keep churning out the latest offers without ever chatting to people!

It's great to see how a band like Duran Duran can and do use newer forms of communication to connect with news fans and reconnect with old fans. It really provides a whole new level for them, not withstanding the fact it's not any easier. Social Media needs a lot of work, just like the traditional ways.

It's important to stay connected, but more important to keep producing great work, and they obviously plan to.

Great post Debbie and I love your last point - "you’ll find that they’re still working on their personal brand every day of their working lives."
