Always Have a Contingency Plan - A Good Way for Your Business to Push Through
"I think running a business successfully requires a little balance. You *have* to think about the possible roadblocks and setbacks and create contingency plans for them. But at the same time you also have to realize that you can't plan for everything. Letting go can sometimes be just as hard as trying to plan for the future."Ileane Smith Argues That Content Isn't King Small Business News, Tips, Advice – Small Business Trends
"The best part of this whole article is in Ileane's comment at the end: "...'valuable' content is very subjective and what has value to one person might be worthless to someone else. If you’re not connected to your audience you won’t know if what you have to say adds value to them or not." This is very true, yet very ignored... "Why the Press Release is Still a Superhero of Marketing
"Not knowing how to properly distribute a press release is definitely a waste of resources. But the bigger problem I've seen is that people don't know how to write effective press releases in the first place. They are more interested in spamming the internet in search of links, or they've been told by some "expert" that they *must* send out a certain amount of press releases per month in order to have a successful online marketing strategy. The result is that many press releases are poorly written, watered-down, spun, dribble."Why the Press Release is Still a Superhero of Marketing
"That's a good point about the two (actually three or four) media mediums overlapping. It seems to be a growing and unavoidable trend. Traditional media has to be connected to the real-time mobile world, or else it will lose some of its relevance and get left behind. Business owners who know this are in the best position to make sure their press releases are targeting those online contacts who have some important off-line news connections. Thanks for pointing this out."The Best Guest Posting Sites for Busy Business Bloggers
"A hundred percent, Heather, and that was the implicit point in this post. Instead of wasting countless time and energy spamming a whole bunch of webmasters in the quest for backlinks, business bloggers should focus on a few key sites that will give them the best return for their efforts- a return that extends way past a mere backlink."Subscribe
Why I'm Straying Away From Facebook
"Hi Matt, I definitely agree with you, especially on this point: "It’s not a fair platform at all anymore and favors the bigger players with bigger budgets." But, I think we have to remember that FB, from the start, was never really intended at a business platform. Though timeline may be absolutely annoying for businesses, it's actually a cool feature IMO for FB users. And, yes, they are looking for ways to earn money off their users, but every company has to do that to keep running. I think the main point for smaller companies to remember is that if they really want to be successful on FB, then it will no longer work to simply throw money into it. You have to make an effort on actual engagement, in other words, try a personal approach."
