Americans Prefer Not to Work for Family Owned Businesses
"This is an interesting survey. I am from Germany. We have several well-known and successful family-owned businesses there. You can't generalize, but these businesses tend to have a more long-term orientation – which provides stability – and they tend to consider their employees as some sort of extended family. Many owners feel responsible their employees. You don’t find that very often anywhere else I had worked for a very large and 100% family-owned business by myself. This was a great time. We could follow long-term strategies without caring for stock quotes and quarterly reports. In general, people there were much more committed to what they did than in other types of businesses. Top Reasons You May Want to Thank Your Competitors
"Ivan, I would add one more reason why you need some competition: you can cooperate with them. There are some situations in which it is better to join forces than to compete. We see this in the automotive industry. They often form alliances for joint R&D projects which would be too expensive and risky for one business alone. Small businesses can do the same. For instance local businesses can cooperate to compete against national players (e.g. in retail). For bloggers, cooperation with other bloggers in their niche is vital too. The best example is guest-posting which is a win-win-situation for both sides."
