Lies, Damn Lies and Spreadsheets; How to Prevent Spreadsheets from Ruining Your Business
"Niall & Helen, a super article - thanks for highlighting the vulnerability and volatility of spreadsheets and their users!! =20+15*2 - A most common error in spreadsheets is lack of knowledge of simple mathematics. Some would use this simple formula to return an answer of 70, however a spreadsheet will return 50. No amount of auditing/checking will proof something like this. I had a client who used Excel for accounting - when moving over to an accounts package, they realised they had not invoiced for 2 contracts!! OK it was only 1000 Euros, but that is a lot of money to be missing out of a small business cash flow! Again, thanks for highlighting. Self taught spreadsheet users can be the most dangerous kind, especially when they mentor others!"Bringing a Traditional Butcher’s Shop Into the 21st Century in Meaty Style
"Interesting enough??? Not only is Pat an articulate and savvy communicator, his passion shines through in every word of his answers Sian. A truly inspirational post, and Pat is helping more traditional businesses in Ireland and beyond see the value of digital marketing and the importance of an online strategy. NO business is too traditional or boring or small to make a significant impact online!"The 5 Worst Employee Engagement Strategies Ever!
"In a business I worked 20 years ago, they gave vouchers for a specific butcher around Christmas, so we could get our turkey and ham for free/cheap. I don't eat turkey and ham for Christmas, and spent January and February eating meat I did not really want. #fail. It could have been worse, though, the business manufactured foam, so at least we didn't get free foam :) I am certain there is a way to pro-rata reward for work accomplished over and above the call of duty, or deadline met early etc. A little more empathy and generosity can go a long way. Great post Niall & Gareth."TweakYourBiz TV Review: A Year Of Video Interviews
"These are great videos to watch and learn. They are also so much fun to do, and I have learned so much just by preparing for them and getting out of my comfort zone. A great way to become more comfortable when it comes to video blogging for our own sites :)"Are you prepared for doing business in the future?
"A little light went off for me re. over-planning. I can also get caught up in details and preparing for eventualities (wow, eventually is a very long time!) And I especially liked "Information is just a commodity that anyone can find. It’s what we do with it that counts." As we sell and barter information, it's becoming more important to be further creative with said information. We want knowledge but we want it presented in so many different ways ,just in order to maintain interest. And I am delighted to see more mediums being used online to express this information more creatively, with the addition of podcasting, webinars, video etc, rather than just the written word. It's even amazing what we can do with the written word! like a smiley for example :-) I thoroughly enjoyed reading this post - and your language combination is sweet to read Lewis. "Master Face-To-Face Marketing-15 Sources of Events Intelligence.
"A great article by Elish :) One thing I focus a lot on when organising a face to face event (like a recent conference I co-hosted in Dublin, Ireland) is to ensure there is no other similar event happening that day, especially nearby when seeking numbers to attend. It's always a difficult one though, but needs to be addressed. At least with online events, people can pop in and out of multiple events (an issue in it's own right) Thanks for including my Smart Solutions blog post on Rapport - but it's not really rocket science, is it?? That video still cracks me up :-)"How a brand belief helps companies be more successful
" Brand belief is superior to the "obligatory" Mission Statement gathering dust in the foyer, and not being practiced. It needs to infiltrate the whole organisation. For a SME owner, self belief and sure belief in their product/service is vital for success and survival. Great post Niall & Gary - http://pinterest.com/pin/287878601151374339/"Don't Forget to Give People Your Business Card
"I keep all business cards, even after storing the information. I love looking at great designs, fab papers, unique colour combinations. They are highly visual, and I am thinking as we load more and more information on them, perhaps we need to scale back, and remember that less can be more :) Not everyone is tech savvy and online, so it's important to have them handy for networking (or even social) events, I have been asked for a card at a social event :) "Subscribe

""May your App adventure be an h-Appy one" something we mortals do not really associate with website development, app development etc and you are so right Debi! A fantastic well written, well laid out article, and contains very important questions and pointers for people looking to partner with app developers, as it is really a partnership - a relationship that at times can become intense, personal and heated!
