"I often get frustrated that people cannot just pay on time. I know there is so much at stake by witholding money, on both sides, but the small business owner is always the one to lose out the most - especially with cash-flow. That has a knock-on effect - they don't get paid, so cannot pay the other small business who provides services, and on and on. And we have to pay the big companies up front, or on time! No lee-way. "2 more online platforms I have seen work well are Quora (similar to YA) and LinkedIn groups, if you can find the right ones. I don't utilise either of them enough - so thanks for the reminders. Your tips demonstrate easy ways to utilise the "freebies" that are of value out in the interweb space, and great for those considering more online exposure for their offline business. I would also recommend the directory sites (especially the local ones for very local small physical businesses) Often, a basic listing is free - again more exposure if proper key words are used, and effective way to be on page 1 in a google search. "Hi Elish. I loved the book, and really enjoyed your interpretation of the 13 Tactics. I found it quite easy to read about them from a business perspective. Perhaps the long standing learning i have gained form the book (as it's a couple of years since I read it) is linked to all that I am currently reading and learning about online business and communication - always think what your customers wants to solve, and they are more concerned about their problem / pain than your suggested solutions. They want you to offer them their solution, not yours. This form of thinking propels us into strategy immediately, compelling us to think of the opposite side's point of view. "Perhaps just highlighting the civil vs private chasm Bob? Academics and universities produce amazing studies, results, innovations, and discoveries. It's sharing and exploiting them for the benefit of the people I feel they struggle with, simply because of mindset. Business owners on the other hand will take every opportunity to grow and exploit great ideas, innovations, and great discoveries. I think one side can learn from the other.
