Facebook Has Just Changed Everything About Small Business Marketing
"The location based services are here to stay. You could now be logged in on Facebook all the time, if you have a smartphone. My favorite location based service is Gowalla at the moment. I like to take pictures (after I have asked for permission) of speakers, social media enthusiasts and friends together with a short message which I distribute on different channels, e.g. Twitter and Facebook. I have started to test out Foursquare because it is one of the main players. What do you think of Facebook's places?"A Lesson in Productivity: Eliminate Distractions
"I don't agree with Ruth Anderson that using Facebook for five minutes would be a distraction and decrease your productivity. The thing is what you do with these five minutes. How about gathering business intelligence information? Checking what you customers are saying about your company? Continue a valuable conversation with a business partner? I do agree with the author of Small Business Lessons that you should do company work during your job hours."Does your website support your sales efforts or cater to your ego?
"Craig Sutton, I believe that you have to understand your true ego (I in Latin) before you could create a website that is supporting your sales effort. My view is that you have to ask the question who you are and what company values you have, and then let these ideas come through in a clear way on your site. I am happy that you have used the EGO logotype for my blog as an illustration to your post, but please give credit to the creators of the logotype, John Cox & Allen Forkum. You are welcome to give me feedback on my [under construction] site, Ego Sole Trader. Please read my first post, Ego under a Rough Banner. http://www.egosoletrader.com/journal/2010/5/11/ego-under-a-rough-banner.html Talking about website design, you have done a marvelous job with BizSugar!"Does your website support your sales efforts or cater to your ego?
"Shawn, Yes it is my graphic. It was made by John Cox & Allen Forkum. Here is an excerpt from interview with them: "EGO: First of all, I want to thank you very much for your work with the EGO logotype. Do you want to tell my readers how you came up with the logotype? FORKUM: The initial idea for the logo was a graphic solution using the word "ego" to form a person's face, but the results didn't really connote egoism strongly enough. I knew John could illustrate a heroic, proud man so that is the tack we took. The original drawing had a square border around it. We eliminated that so the man would be the highest graphic element in the logo. The sphere was meant to connote a lofty peak or even the world itself. COX: Heroic was what I was shooting for. There was power in his stance that I think captured a sense of joy and determination. I really wanted to work simple, simple, simple. You put the logo on a jersey and I've worn that shirt out. [EGO Editor: How about sending a X-mas gift to John & Allen?] I really liked the understated size of the artwork, yet its intent is a real attention-getter. That logo was a fun project." http://egoist.blogspot.com/2003/12/interview-with-john-cox-allen-forkum.html Thanks for your kind words. It is great to hear that you get that impression from my EGO blog. I will write a Trader Manifesto at some point in the future. It will be based on the trader principle segment in my podcast show.
