Building A Community vs. Building A Personal Brand
"David, I think it is an integration of finding, developing and protecting your personal brand and at the same time interact in different online communities (in my case, e.g., Small Business Trends and here on BizSugar) and participate in social activities like Mashable Meetup and Social Media Club in Gothenburg, Sweden. David Stiernholm (@DavidStiernholm on Twitter) said something like this to me during a lunch meeting: "You have integrated your personal brand and your profession as a social media enthusiast in a good way." I credit my insight in fundamental ideas for this integration and that is why I use the motto, "Trader in Matter & Spirit" in my Twitter bio."How and Why I Podcast :: Small Business Marketing Blog from Duct Tape Marketing
"John, I have been blogging since 2002 and I think that is my hub, but podcasting will add another dimension to my social media activities. I enjoy having a conversation with interesting individuals and learn stuff from and exchange ideas with them. It is a great way of creating content. During these five years, you have built a huge data bank of a wealth of information and knowledge. My goal is to have a show on a regular basis. It is a bit tough to line up several people to interview in the start-up phase of the show. During a period of time I had a guest almost every week, but I had to take a break recently and plan for the future. I want to have a show at least a couple of times per month in the future. I will start to book guests and add them to the "pipeline" soon again and start the show again after the holiday season. I use Blog Talk Radio's podcast service, so the show get recorded and archived at once. I listen to the show and then manually add show notes and a timeline in a post on my blog. I call into the dashboard system by using Skype to Blog Talk Radio's number for hosts. I use Plantronics headset (recommended by Skype). I don't edit the show as it is now. I have to check out iStockphoto and Casting Words. When could I have an interview with you about Duct Tape Marketing, your new book and referral marketing, and other things? "Hi Susan, I have been blogging since 2002 and I can see with my type of blog that it is hard to get plenty of traffic to the blog, but it generates a steady portion of search results to it. I am reviewing the stats on a regular basis. The addition of Twitter has increased the engagement in a good way. Have you written any piece on this topic? All the Best, Martin"Subscribe
Reading in Different Ways
"Yoni, I like the real deal too, the smell of an antique book, turning the pages, making notes in the margin, highlighting things, etc. The thing is that the e-book reader and the iPad are getting there in the experience, plus some additional features like hyperlinks, interactive stuff, etc. It is also an economical thing regarding space and money. It is great to have several pieces of your favorite reading material in one place, instead of carrying around plenty of books. I haven't checked the price comparison, but I think you could save money by reading on e-book reader or listening to audio books. "
