The Not So Sweet 16: Common Mistakes Businesses Make With Social Media
"Great list Greg, Wouldn't it be great if people just read one post of this nature before they start with social media. I'd add building community and genuinely engaging with people as very important, I've seen many Facebook pages with hundreds of thousands on fans and really poor levels of engagement. If a fan/customer asks a question and is completely ignored, what do businesses believe this does to their image/perception? The reality is that social media can be both a force for good and bad, people sometimes forget that. Thanks for sharing, Niall Flag "Want A Successful Small Business? Learn The Fine Art Of Saying “No”
"As I read this post, I found myself nodding in agreement all the way through. In the last few years, I've had to realise pretty much everything that you've said here, to the point where I am now entirely selective as to who I will and won't work with. There is however one place where I will often take a slightly different strategy and that's online, the reason: because the actions I take or the words that I write are seen by many more eyes than just those of the person they are directed towards. In other words, I will help a person I don't really want to work with because someone I that I would want to work with is likely to be watching or will see later."How To Resurrect Your LinkedIn Contacts And Get Free PR
"Hi Fred, Brilliant post and a great idea from Matt, love it! This could easily be also applied to Facebook or Twitter or all. One that works for me is that I try to contact and speak you (usually by phone) least one person from my connections. Thanks for sharing, Niall"Advise For Chasing Debtors
"Hi Sian, This is advice all small business owners can do with right now, I've had my own problems with getting paid in the last twelve months. I think you're point about showing understanding is well made, unfortunately many businesses and business people are in a similar position, in that they must first get paid before they can pay their debts. I also know that obtaining credit was suddenly made a lot more difficult by the financial institutions which has made things even more difficult. Great advice! "Hi Elli, great post! I would recommend that people read it in conjunction with Fred's last post here http://bloggertone.com/management/2011/02/01/doing-the-hours/ and this one http://sivers.org/delegate from Derek Sivers. Together, they provide a framework for how to approach managing your commitment, time and responsibility towards your business, a how-to be “a business owner” Thanks for sharing - Niall"Subtle Sales Talk To Sucker You In Or Leave You Cynically Sarcastic
"Hi Mairead, The internet of course now makes it that much easier for companies and individuals to make both genuine and of course not so genuine offers, it's a bit of a double edged sword. The key consideration, as you point out is to do your research and rarely have I come across an offer where I couldn't find out more and very often from the same people that had either been taken in or benefited as a result. Here's a recent online conversation about the trustworthiness of salespeople that somewhat ties in with your post http://lnkd.in/tQFKD8"Getting Media Coverage When There's No News

"Oh Barney this is a great topic and one which nearly every salesperson and business owner will be familiar with. As you point out prevention is always better than cure and there are many things you can do to help avoid this situation. Let me give some additional pointers, social media is great in that with a little work, it allows you to develop a relationship with more many people and points of contact within the organisation. I try to form strong allies and these don’t necessarily need to be decision makers. One great tip I’ve picked up is to make contact with and build a relationship with one of the sales team. We speak the same language, they understand better than anyone the issues and problems and are generally very helpful in providing an inside track as to what’s going on and any internal politics that may be relevant. In short, the more research you do and the more people you seek out, the more opportunity you will have to know. Great title by the way. :)"Subscribe

"Hi Frank, great point about how critical it is to be able to put into practice what you've learned so as it remains steadfast in your knowledge bank. For me, the internet has become the significant tool in my own personnel development. Thanks for sharing, Niall"
