I've seen a lot of those full price trials with money back guarantees too. They are the logical extension of what Caelen talks about in his blog post in terms of qualifying a prospect's purchasing ability, but I'm sure they massively reduce the number of people who take the trial in the first place. In reality it is a full sale where you promise to give the money back if the customer isn't happy, and both sides know this is a relatively rare occurrence. I agree completely about the lack of follow up emails to trial participants being a real waste of a sales opportunity."
