Entrepreneurship and Risk-Taking in Business are Dead: The Return of the Debtors Prison!
"Duncan, From what I've read, some people did act as benefactors, bailing debtors out and making them indentured servants until the debt was paid off...better than prison I suppose. Others were offered the choice of serving in his/her Majesty's Navy. I'm guessing that serving on a 72-gun Man O' War also beat prison. "Ronika, Great article! Looks like it could be used in a textbook! Unfortunately my business just barely squeaks by. If I were to provide myself with such incentives, it would probably take the form of cookies. Our two dogs, my two employees would get Milk-Bones for their hard work. I just gave one to each and said it was from you! Yoni"How to Write a Book in 28 Days or Less
"Some SOBERING figures for book writers. I'm told by a big publisher I know that the average time to write a book...that is writing, editing, proofing and readying the manuscript for and editor to ready it for publication is 90 to 120 days. Secondly, even more sobering perhaps: only 1 out of every 3,000 mauscripts submitted ends up being published. Self-publishing is another beast altogether; anybody can publish their own book. As a literary writer myself I have had many works published in journals and magazines. Short fiction and poetry. A book however is a huge undrtaking...one I have tried, but never finished. "Hi Jackie. Great post and great advice. My problem used to be -and still is to a certain degree- fear of success. I always found myself in a low-key comfort-zone and anything which threatened to take me out of it was seen as a negative. Along with success, I always worried, would come increased expectations...expectations I didn't feel certain I could live up to. For many, success can be scary...so I guess it's a good thing that I am successful on a very small scale. Yoni"Subscribe
Entrepreneurship and Risk-Taking in Business are Dead: The Return of the Debtors Prison!
"Ronika, Half the population plus one...me! I think fear and restrictions would make people more cautious, but it would probably curb the wellspring of ideas which lead to innovation and profitability. On the other hand as you say, responsibility and circumstance are key factors. What to do? I'm not sure. That's, for better or for worse, what politicians are for :) Yoni"
