Gary: The A.I.D.A rule is still valid, I think. The thing is that you have to mix it up a bit and add the social and interactive element into the ad.

Yes Martin, A.I.D.A. still applies, though it's bit of a dated concept. For small business owners who have so much at stake, every dollar has to count. That leaves broad based awareness building secondary behind driving leads that will boost the bottom line. I see brand strategists trying to apply big brand advertising think to small business. Branding is great, but if eats up your finite marketing budget and doesn't directly impact your bottom line, you may not be open long enough to reap the long term benefits of "awareness" marketing.

It’s quite true about the saying – There’s no second chance at making a good first impression.Small business owners need something that makes people laugh, talks about it or at least make you look twice.Great article!

Thanks Goran! You're right, advertising is going beyond a coupon code and call to action, people are looking for a reason to click on an ad, or call a business.....I don't think businesses spend enough time thinking their ad planning through....they could get much better results if they did. Cheers
