Every day – yeah, pretty much every day – I get an email from somebody seeking to hire a slave. In my mind’s eye, I see them standing there with a whip and an evil laughter. “Muuaahhahahhahahaaaaa!”
Do you want to hire a slave or a writer?

Roy: I agree with your point. You are not a slave if you get hired. You are not acquired or forced to write according to "slave" situation. That said, I think you are right about the "race to the bottom" payment. I say that I want to have real money as a payment, so my standard price is 1 kilo of silver for 4 hours of work, as a new media advisor. As a former purchaser, I am good a negotiating with myself! ;)

So true that slaves don't get hired. But we have all heard of slave wages, which is of course an oxymoron. It's sort of like zero gravity. There is no such thing.
When you are floating in space, there remains a tiny pull in one direction or another (or perhaps in several). As one approaches zero gravity, it is easier to just call it "zero gravity" that to refer to it as incalculably imperceptible gravity.
So, too, it is easier to call yourself a slave when you are paid incalculably imperceptible wages. Hence, slave wages.
On the plus side, if you are good negotiating with yourself, you might just come to a position that you both can live with.
