Both franchise and independent business model have their pros and cons. Franchise does give you a proven business model, brand recognition and operating processes. However, as you mentioned, it comes with the price of freedom.

My recommendation is if you are new to business and just starting out go with the franchise model. It will give you opportunity to learn without having to take too much risk.

Whether running a franchise or other small business, the key to any partnership has to do with determining what value everyone brings to the relationship. People sometimes seem either adverse to partnership or too eager to enter into them on principle alone. While personality certainly impacts your ability to work in a partnership in general and cannot be ignored, the real question should be whether a partnership offers you or others benefits for working together or not.
