Always thought this was a huge problem even when I was in my early 20's...and not just for the folks who get passed over. It's a waste of resources for businesses who make hiring decisions on this basis and for society at large. I know there are those who will raise rational arguments for hiring young despite rules on age discrimination. Here's the thing. It's IMPOSSIBLE to determine the performance level or commitment of an individual based on age. Many managers have found this out the hard way.

Age discrimination can be a big factor, as was shown on either Dateline or 60 Minutes. So can being less than "stunningly good-looking", regardless of dress. It's the pathetic state of human nature we must all occasionally deal with (unless we're young & look great - then we got no prob'ms).
