One of the most thrilling moments of a growing small business is the moment you hire someone to work for you. Not a contractor. You've got a full-fledged employee! Yay! Do a little dance...

Niall,

It sound like your first boss was a great example of having the confidence in himself to guide you and let you make mistakes. Unfortunately it's pretty rare in many industries, not just sales.

Hi Elli, great reminder to all of us! My very first boss shaped my opinions on how to manage and interact with people, he took a guy who couldn't sell for love nor money and taught me how to through encouragement and coaching, and as soon as I could then trusted me to teach others. One of his biggest strengths was he allowed you to make mistakes and didn’t feel the need to jump in. I’ve learnt since that this was a pretty rare trait for a sales manager. I’m pretty sure that if he hadn’t taken an interest like he did, I wouldn’t have the confidence to be where I am today.
