Continuous improvement is the act of working to improve upon your current situation.
It is important to make improvements because the whole world is in motion and if you elect to do nothing and “stay the same”, you will, relatively, be falling behind the curve.
Staying the same is impossible
So you have two options: as time passes, relative to the others around you, get better or get worse.
We recommend you perfect your performance and engage in a process of continuous improvement.

I think your post will fit well in Stefan Engeseth's book, Sharkonomics. From my review on Small Business Trends:
" But this is the ”big thought” (phrase coined by Tim Sanders) of Sharkonomics:
”Always do more than these lists (attack and defend) and never, ever stand still (”move or die”).”"

I have not read the book sharkonomics
I believe there are universal principles guiding all facets of successful action.
the trick is to discover them and then live in accordance with them.
