Cover your ass, the most frustrating business practice ever!

Protecting yourself when you make a mistake is human nature. However, in business, self-protection can lead to a break-down in trust between parties. Should we not just own up to our mistakes, work through them and move on? Or am I just naive.

Interesting, Barney!

For years I've heard a different definition of CYA (Cover Your Arse) than blaming others when one is actually at fault:

Being sure all your i's are dotted & all your t's are crossed - being sure all your ducks are in a row to insure success by anticipating all possible problems before they occur, and being sure that proper procedure was followed in every step. This version of CYA is a good thing.
