Last Friday, I visited a hospital in the Charlotte, NC, area. In the waiting area, I saw the following sign: [pic]
"Staff, Physicians, Families or Patients may nominate a nurse who has shown compassionate care and had a positive impact on a patient and/or their family....Please turn in nomination no later than October 21st 2007."
2007... that was 4 years ago!
I spotted the same sign in the patient recovery area. Has no one noticed these signs or does the staff not care enough to take them down?

Hi Anna,

I'm curious - was it a small community hospital, a giant, or a small one taken over by a giant. What freaks me out is that the disconnect is actually in writing. Can you imagine how many people have seen those signs in 4 years? Where's the "caring" that the brass is trying in vain to demonstrate through the nurse's blackboard quotes? Finally, how are they doing - are they known for great care (medically & personally), and are they financially OK. (I'd be surprised if things were going well.)

A giant - it belongs to a healthcare system that includes 33 affiliated hospitals. I have heard horror stories, but, to my surprise, I hear those about many healthcare institutions in the US - can't say if they are true or not.

Where is the 'caring'? - You are right. The visit reminded me more of a manufacturing plant tour than a hospital visit.
