Should you expect employees to work as much (or more) hours than you?

Usually the business owner works more than the rest of the team, but do they wish it was the opposite? If you work more than your employees, it might be setting unrealistic expectations for them. One employee and employer talk about this openly and I think you might be surprised by the outcome.

Completely agree with you. As a leader I need to set an example by working hard and extra hours, however I cannot expect the same from all employees. Everyone's situation is different. One person may be interested in only 40 hour job, while another may want to contribute extra to move up or learn more. it is leader's job to reward those properly who do contribute more than others.

AngelBiz: It is easy regulated by some kind of contract or mutual agreement. The big question we should ask ourselves is: hours versus end result and long-range impact due to your work?

I think it should be a two-way street. Focus on the results, not so much on the time aspect of the work. How about the trust factor involved?
