Ever Googled your own name? Most people have at some point, and there's a good chance your customers have Googled your name, too. Make sure what they find about you in Google makes them want to do business with you.

Luckily I have a pretty unique name, Martin Lindeskog. Today I listened to Kirsten Dixson (personal branding podcast) interview with David Meerman Scott. He added his middlename, Meerman, in all his communication messages, on his book, etc. He said that he now could stand out compared with the common name "David Scott". I have to check out his Web Ink site. He gets 138,000 hits on his name. I get 10,700 hits. At the moment, the four first searches are from my different blogs and sites, the 5th is my LinkedIn profile, 6 is my Twitter page, 7 & 8 are to my "bulletin board" site and Blogger.com profile, 9 place to my Business Exchange profile on Business Week (that I have to get more active on...) and #10 is my Facebook profile page.

I have 788 image searches on my name. I have to look into the matter of video searches. Right now it is some network marketing guy that has inserted my name in his YouTube videos about MLM. I guess that he has used some of my blog posts.

Easier said than done, especially if you've had numerous jobs and past lives that intersect with the Internet. There are many people online selling reputation management and this is certainly something to think about, but with search engines constantly focusing on fresh content, I think it's best not to dwell on that embarrassing first WordPress site you've since lost the password to and can't take down...unless it's REALLY embarrassing, of course!
