Hi Yoni.

I can just imagine your frustration. The choice I suspect is to decide to accept its going to happen and not to look to hard to check if it is:) or to go after the person in question. However, as you point out, the latter is time and "cost" prohibitive - you have better things to be doing with your day I suspect. Chasing after those who don't credit you with the work is probably only the realm of larger companies who have people to do such things.

I must check out that site that Susan popped up as well. Don't worry about the plagarists (sure that isn't spelt correctly :) ) and keep on posting the great material.

Best

Barney, Thanks for the comment! I probably will take your advice and just stop checking, as its less frustrating. I have a friend who posted her profile on ODesk: every place she had ever worked, dates, companies, experience, education, etc. A few months later she Googled her profile and found out that someone else on ODesk had cut and psted everything. He didn't change a word!! She confronted him and it was she that got in trouble?!? ODesk told her that the site is not one for confrontation or recrimination!!?I guess people shouldn't be surprised the CVs, profiles, portfolio items, blogs and articles are hijacked. It's just far too easy to do. It's been happening in the music and movie industries for years with pirated CDs and the like. Not much to be done. Looking forward to your next post!

C'mon, REALLY?

Basically all you just said was that the Internet makes it all that much easier for people to rip you off. OK fine, but . . . that's IT?

Fact is, the $20 is a waste of money. Copyright is automatic, even if you don't (C) mark something as such. BUT . . . with or without the symbol or the WGA registration having "proof of ownership" is of no value unless you're ready to pursue the issue in court.

The real value of the internet relative to this is that you can make noise when you're wronged, and in general that noise gets listened to and "the bad guy" gets discredited ... and you by extension get some positive press.

Seriously . . . you didn't say much of anything; next time you tackle this subject you should try adding some information about what a Copyright is REALLY worth and HOW you pursue the rights that a copyright gives you.Jeff Yablon

Yoni, I LOVED your post desite Jeff's harsh criticism. judging from the numer of votes you got I'm not alone. Jeff: this is a forum for ideas and critique. Yoni is a great writer who brought wit and insight to the issue. You brought unfair and in my opinion somewhat uncivil tone to it. If you can do better, I'll be glad to see your post. I also am taken aback that with your critical nature you didn't miss the opportunity to plug your businesses.

Jeff, First...R-E-L-A-X! Secondly, I didn't intend to "tackle" the subject, my point was merely to show that trying to own what you write is an exercise in futility. Explain copyright and IP? I'm no attorney, merely a writer. Perhaps you will post an article on the subject? Yoni (Sarai's husband and author of the article)

Susan,

Thanks so much for the website which I will certainly check out. I hope the company doesn't decide to do anything "evil" with your image. All the best,

Yoni

Unfortunately this happens Yoni. Check out http://www.tynt.com It adds a link to pasted copy. It can be disabled but it might help you. There are a couple of other sites that I can't remember at the moment but will find out for you.

What I have found is that a certain company uploades the image of the packaging of one of my products and I am just waiting to see what they do with it.
