TJ: If you think "networking is dangerous," I recommend you to attend a course on how to mingle, create referrals, etc. I am a certified networker by ReferensAkademin (the Referral Institute in the United States of America). I don't have any problem to go alone to a networking event, but I have done research on who is going (if that information is available beforehand). Many people are going with co-workers and end up chatting with folks they already know.
