As a writer, I think unless you have a HUGE organization, press-releases are worthless. Its days have gone by.
The funny thing is these days, 99% of press-releases are not press-releases at all. They are novelty items crafted to look like the real thing and mostly they appear in blogs, newsletters, etc., rather than in the press as their name and purpose suggest.
A true press-release demands both an outstanding vision, reputation and some VERY highly-placed contacts in the world of journalism.
