Will Twitter Cards Make Facebook Obsolete?

Twitter Cards are form of meta tag, similar to the Google Authorship Tag, that allows us to embed media into our Tweets. Why do we need Facebook?

Is the Twitter card only working on Wordpress blogs? Will the rich media show up in Twitter's own tool on the web and on the mobile app? I am a huge fan of Twitter, so I am glad to see that the company is expanding beyond the 140 character border.
