In recent studies, it has been found that approximately one in six UK adults have some form of hearing loss and, about 1.4 million (about 15%) use subtitles. This form of written communication is one of incredible importance to deaf people, allowing them to engage with the world more fully and participate in popular events. Even music festivals such as the infamous Glastonbury are now employing sign linguists to enable deaf people to participate in concerts.
