Despite the successes of humor in advertising, we don’t hear about implementing this strategy very much in internet marketing. If you’re not humorizing your blog or online business then you might be missing out on a load of unseen potential.

I love a good laugh on a blog post, and will return repeatedly to those that really made me laugh, just to laugh again!

That said, I also believe that some people are naturally funny, and some people just are NOT. The ones who are not and TRY too hard to be funny generally fall embarrassingly flat. There's nothing wrong with not being funny, and non-funny people may have very valuable serious content to share. They should stick with that.

So, while I love humor as much as the next person, I don't necessarily agree that everyone should try it on their blog.

I loved this post. It's so true. I find that I really remember the ones that jumped out and made me laugh.

Thanks

Hi Alex.

I really like pic #8 - Kirk fighting the Gorn. I always thought Bobby Goren on "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" was based on the Gorn - hence Bobby Gorn!

Further, I really do appreciate some humor injected in my day when reading business blogs. It lightens the day after several technical pieces - like the Sunday comics.

I was ripped a new a** by a reader once who said there is no place in business writing, including blogging for humor. He said he would not return, prefering instead, conservatibe business wisdom and advice. I respected his decision. But...I agree with you completely. People love humor. Look at the % of people who tune in to late-nite talk-shows, go to comedy clubs...I used to go to a great one at Station Square in good-old Pittsburg, PA, and loved it. People love Woody Allen, even though I think it's pretty damn creepy that he married his adopted daughter...not funny. Rodney Dangerfield. People love humor. They love to laugh. They like jokes, silliness, lightness, funny videos, humorous pictures. So, I ask, why not in business. As long as you offer good advice, is causing a chuckle a crime? You have given a great answer in an awesome post!

I couldn't agree more! This is a great post and hopefully it will inspire people to be amusing. Having said that, it is very important to be original too, don't just copy what's out there already and be very careful that what you consider really funny, someone else doesn't consider inappropriate.

Humour, however you spell it, is very subjective and unless totally innocent can be dodgy ground to tread on. Be careful NOT to upset people!!

I'm smiling as I type because my Social Media satire 8 post is out in a day or two and 8 weeks ago it started as a 'one off'! Just proves the power of a smile during difficult times.

All the best, Peter
